What is The Muslim Blueprint 🧬

The Muslim Blueprint is a Muslim focused media company with an aim to showcase and amplify the contributions that Muslims make to their communities, and in many cases the world.

We aim to shine a light on their achievements by sharing them far and wide, providing a blueprint for others to follow.

Background

The Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) produced a detailed report titled ‘State of Media Reporting on Islam and Muslims’ in 20191. This report involved analysing almost 11,000 articles, clips and broadcasts in British media in order to understand the industry’s role in the increase in Islamophobia. Their research found that:

  • 59% of all articles associated Muslims with negative behaviour

  • Over 33% of all articles misrepresented or generalised about Muslims

  • Terrorism was the dominant theme

Not fun reading!

Additionally, a poll carried out by MEND in 2018 found that 37% of British adults say that the marginalisation of Islam is increasing in the media.2

Nesrine Malik, a Guardian journalist and all round legend, stated in an article for New Statesman that ‘The thirst for stories that vilify Muslims has eroded basic principles of journalism’.3

Long story short - British media and perhaps western media as a whole do not do Muslims any favours. Muslim successes are not reported to the same degree and extent as negative incidents - and this is why the idea for The Muslim Blueprint was born. To celebrate Muslim successes, and to provide a blueprint for others to learn from.

So please share this freely and spread the word about The Muslim Blueprint. Inshallah together we will be able to share informative, interesting and uplifting content, and inspire even more Muslim magic across the world!

Finally - What is that Logo?!

Long Version

The logo is a Double Helix, which represents the structure of a DNA molecule and contains the instructions an organism within the human body needs to develop and live. For this reason, scientists often refer to it as the Blueprint of Life.

Since Francis Crick and James Watson discovered the Double Helix in 1953, great strides have been made in molecular biology, and we now know that DNA represents how we are all essentially connected. According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, human DNA is made up of around 3 billion base pairs, and more than 99% of those bases are the same in ALL people!

Human connectedness is emphasised strongly in Islam, with numerous verses in Quran and Hadith stating our rights and obligations over each other.
